Exam essay

I want to call Iago as ‘the gift of gab’ because Iago’s skill on persuasion is better than President of United States. In an old Korean story there is quote on the importance of persuasion: ‘With one word, I can remove my debt.’ Persuasion is one of the most important skills that everyone needs in order to live a life that he or she wants. One of my favorite scenes in Othello is the end of act III, where Iago saying “And may: but, how? How satisfied, my lord? Would you, the supervisor, grossly gape on to behold her topp’d?” which represent that Iago’s high skilled persuasion can make his opponent (Othello) to imagine the false story and upset Othello. He gently persuade Othello to the point that he would listen to Iago's story. Also throughout the whole story, we can see the great work of Iago’s persuasion. For example, Iago persuade Roderigo to attack Cassio so Cassio can be removed from the picture which is extremely dangerous and risky since Roderigo is citizen and Cassio is in high position in the military. Also, before this happened, Iago persuade Cassio to drink alcohol so Cassio accept Roderigo’s challenge.

I am glad I have found this napkin: This was her first remembrance from the Moor: My wayward husband hath a hundred times Woo'd me to steal it; but she so loves the token, For he conjured her she should ever keep it, that she reserves it evermore about her To kiss and talk to. I'll have the work ta'en out, And give't Iago: what he will do with it heaven knows, not I; I nothing but to please his fantasy.

Emilia says this line to herself describing that she will give Othello's handkerchief to her husband, Iago. This property turns out to be one of the biggest parts in Othello. Iago the snake use handkerchief to trick Othello. Because of it, Othello become sure that Desdemona is cheating on him. The trail of handkerchief is quite far. First, Othello give this napkin to Desdemona. Second, Emilia steal the napkin from Desdemona. Third, Emilia gives this napkin to Iago to make him satisfied(we can see that by Emilia saying "I nothing but to please his fantasy"). Last, Iago tells Emilia to leave this handkerchief in Cassio's room and Cassio gives this handkerchief to his girl friend Bianca. After all, Bianca throw this napkin in to Cassio's face by thinking that Cassio obtained handkerchief from another girl. Emilia is some type of slave to Iago because she doesn't ask her husband a reason when Iago tells her to do something.

Poem Again

GARDEN BY H. D.

I

You are clear
O rose, cut in rock,
hard as the descent of hail.

I could scrape the colour
from the petals
like spilt dye from a rock.

If I could break you
I could break a tree.

If I could stir
I could break a tree—
I could break you

Comment
In this poem I could possibly feel the writer's feeling of the sanguine and tolerable feelings.
I expecially like the line that says I could scrape the colour from the petals becuase, everyone knows that it is not possible to scrape the coulour from petals, but it shows the writer's feeling of tolerable.
I also liked the line if I could stir because it gives me a feeling that you are week.

Shakespeare and Barry Manilow

 Desdemona
 Barry Manilow
 What horrible fancy's this?
Upon my knees, what doth your speech import?
I understand a fury in your words....
Your wife, my lord; your true
And loyal wife.
Heaven doth truly know it.
To whom, my lord? with whom? how am I false?
Alas the heavy day! Why do you weep?
Am I the motive of these tears, my lord?...
I hope my noble lord esteems me honest.
Alas, what ignorant sin have I committed?
By heaven, you do me wrong.
No, as I am a Christian:
If to preserve this vessel for my lord...
No, as I shall be saved.
O, heaven forgive us!
Faith, half asleep.
With who?
Who is thy lord?
* Can't Smile Without You *

You know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm findin' it hard to do anything

You see I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm goin' through
I just can't smile without you

You came along just like a song
And brightened my day
Who'da believed that you were part of a dream?
Now it all seems light years away

And now you know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm findin' it hard to do anything
